With a splutter and a roar, the Heritage Touring Cars Series is set to fire up and go racing. The 2018 calendar is confirmed, with Round 1 of the series set for April 13 – 15 at The Bend in South Australia.
Put these dates in your calendars and look forward to a brilliant year of historic touring car racing with the Legends of Bathurst.
2018 Heritage Touring Cars Series
Round 1 – Shannons Nationals at The Bend Motorsport Park, South Australia, April 13 – 15
Round 2 – ARDC Muscle Car Masters at Sydney Motorsport Park, New South Wales, June 9 – 10
Round 3 – HRCC Historic Queensland at Morgan Park, Warwick, Queensland, July 14 – 15
Round 4 – HSCC Baskerville Historics, Baskerville, Tasmania, September 22-23
Round 5 – VHRR Historic Sandown, Sandown Raceway, Victoria, November 10 – 11
This year’s series will be contested across five points rounds, with points from a competitor’s four best rounds allocated to their season total.
In a first for the series, 2018 will see competitors put tyres to tarmac in five states. The series kicks off in South Australia, travelling to New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania before wrapping up in Victoria. This enables us to bring our passion for classic Australian touring car racing to more people than ever and we’re very pleased to be able to share it with fans from around the country.
We’ll also join in the Shannons Nationals for the first time in 2018. There, we’ll be giving Australia’s newest motorsport facility an unforgettable history lesson, unleashing historic Group C & A cars on The Bend Motorsport Park, which opened in Tailem Bend, South Australia just a few weeks ago in January.
This event will be the first national motorsport event to be held on the circuit. It will mirror the popular Muscle Car Masters program with competition running across three days and providing practice, qualifying, three combined C & A races and a separate feature race each for Group C and Group A. For those who can’t make it in person, the action will be streamed live. We’ll keep you in the loop on www.heritagetouringcars.com, so keep an eye on this space!
Another first for the series will be a visit to the Baskerville Historics in Tasmania. Our Group C & A monsters will board the Spirit of Tasmania for a trip across Bass Strait to spend the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of September racing. We’re looking forward to sharing the golden age muscle car fever with our friends in Australia’s southernmost state.
In 2018, Muscle Car Masters has moved from its traditional Father’s Day long weekend timing to the June Queen’s Birthday long weekend (June 9 – 10). The date may be different, but the event is sure to pack the same mighty muscle car punch as always, and we can’t wait.
July 14 – 15 will see us enjoying a tempered winter weekend in the Queensland sunshine, when we head to Morgan Park for the HRCC’s Historic Queensland. This is a brilliant circuit and one of the friendliest motorsport events on the calendar. Don’t miss it!
The series finale will be held over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of November at the VHRR’s Historic Sandown. This is an awesome event, held on one of the country’s iconic touring car circuits – a track that suits our magic old muscle car monsters to a T.
We are looking forward to a fun, social, safe and exciting year of Heritage Touring Cars racing and we’re very grateful for the opportunity to play a role in the preservation and enjoyment of classic Australian Group C and Group A cars. Join us at an event near you, get up close and personal with the Legends of Bathurst, chat with the people who drive and care for them and enjoy them out on the track doing what they do best.
