Following a long summer break, we’re now just a few days out from the Phillip Island Classic and the start of our 2026 Heritage Touring Cars series. More than 40 historic Australian touring cars are on their way to the country’s biggest historic race meeting, so let’s see what we have to look forward to.
The 2026 Phillip Island Penrite 100 Classic will be held at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit this weekend, March 14 and 15, and celebrate 100 years of Penrite Oil. More than 400 historic racing cars have entered across the 11 categories, including our own Group A, Group C and 5-litre Touring Cars, Le Mans Group C cars, Historic Formula 1, Formula 5000 and more.
Our newly incorporated HTC Super Sprint is set to run again, featuring 15 genuine classic Supercars that will hit the track and revive classic Ford VS Holden rivalries. Chris Stillwell will pilot an ex-Marcos Ambrose DJR Team Penske Ford FG-X Falcon, Andrew O’Connel a Bud Racing AU Falcon, David Murphy an ex-Dick Johnson EB Falcon and Stephen Langley a BA Falcon.
Bradley Host, Ben Egglestone and Martin Wagg will bring out a series of VF Commodores, with Mark Ehsman set to pilot a VC Monaro and Peter Abood a Supercheap Auto VE Commodore. Brad Host’s car is the 2016 Bathurst 1000-winning TEKNO VF Commodore, with Eggleston peddling an ex-Red Bull car and Wagg in an HRT.
We are pleased to welcome several new cars and drivers to the HTC Race Grid featuring Groups C & A, along with the new historic categories of 3A and 3B. Peter Killick will pedal a Toyota Corolla FX GT, Craig Allan an Everlast VL Commodore SS and Aaron Hodges a freshly restored Group A Mustang originally raced by privateer Kevin Clark.
Craig Allan’s VL was originally built by Brian Callahan for the 1988 Bathurst 1000, where it placed sixth ahead of a series of Walkinshaw Commodores. It was restored by Shane Woodman, who owned the car previously.

It joins Jason Delany’s VL Commodore, which has been brought back to life following a three-decade absence and will run with Heritage Touring Cars for the first time over the weekend. This car was Jason Bargwanna’s first Bathurst ride, originally debuting in 1985 and running until 1987 as a VK in a red livery before Bargwanna pedalled it in VL trim under Brian Callaghan’s team in the 1990 outing of the Great Race.

Terry Lawlor has been hard at work on DJR4, the Ford Sierra Cosworth originally built by Dick Johnson Racing and used by the team between 1988 and 1991. The car has been meticulously restored with dedicated support work by Brad Tilley Auto Garage, All Classic Cars, Dick Johnson Racing and Mountune Racing UK, and is now set for a great weekend at Phillip Island.
This was the team’s lead #17 Sierra throughout the 1989 ATCC, with Johnson driving it to five wins across eight rounds to seal his fifth and final championship title. It also gave Johnson his first ever Bathurst 1000 pole position, plus his team’s first major touring car victory overseas. Infamously, it was also the car that Johnson spun at high speed on Conrod Straight whilst leading in the early stages of the 1988 Bathurst 1000.
Qualifying for the race grid is scheduled for 11:35am on Saturday morning, with the supersprint following at 12:40pm. The first race will go out that afternoon from 3:35pm, with the supersprint out last at 4:35pm.
Both fields will enjoy two events on Sunday, the racing grid out first at 12:00 midday and again at 4:00pm. The super sprint field is set for 12:45pm and the final run of the event at 4:45pm. Remember that this is a historic race meeting, and times may change!
Head to the VHRR’s official website here for more details, where you can also find the digital programme.
We look forward to seeing you at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, this weekend March 14 – 15.
