After all-too-little motor sport in 2020, we’re thrilled to announce a full season of Heritage Touring Cars racing for 2021. The four round series will see the Legends of Bathurst visit Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales. In a boon for both the category and the fans, an invitational event will also be held with the Supercars in March.
Lock in the following dates, and join us for a great year of historic Australian touring car racing.
2021 Heritage Touring Cars Series
Round 1 – VHRR Phillip Island Classic at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, Phillip Island Victoria, March 5-6
Invitational Event – Supercars Sandown SuperSprint, Sandown International Motor Raceway, Victoria, March 20-21 (non-championship)
Round 2 – HRCC Autumn Historic Warwick at Morgan Park Raceway, Warwick QLD, May 8-9
Round 3 – HSRCA Sydney Classic, Sydney Motorsport Park, NSW, June 12-13
Round 4 – Sydney Master Blast, Sydney Motorsport Park, NSW, September 4-5
The Australian historic motor sport season is somewhat unusual in that it tends to kick off with its headliner – the Phillip Island Classic. This iconic event is set to attract up to 350 entries this year, covering eight decades of motor sport history across categories ranging from our Group C & A touring cars, to the magic Group C sports cars, Formula 1 and the vintage wonders of Groups J, K and L.
We’ll open up around the fast bends of Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit over March five and six.
Just a few weeks later Heritage Touring Cars will be at another iconic touring car racing circuit, Sandown International Motor Raceway, to run as a support category for the Supercars Sandown SuperSprint. Sandown is a great circuit where a lot of history was made in our cars, and we’re looking forward to taking fans of the modern series back to the golden age of the sport.
As the weather gets cooler, the Heritage Touring Cars series heads north to the HRCC’s Autumn Historic Warwick meeting, which will be held at Morgan Park Raceway over the 8th and 9th of May. This event has long been a favourite, and in recent years has gone from strength to strength and cemented its place as a highlight on the calendar.
Over June 12th & 13th we’ll take part in the HSRCA’s Sydney Classic at Sydney Motorsport Park. The event is shaping up to be a big one, celebrating some significant anniversaries, including the club’s 40th birthday, and honouring Australian motor racing legend Ron Tauranac, who we lost last year.
The 2021 Heritage Touring Cars series will conclude in fine style at Sydney Master Blast featuring the Muscle Car Masters. Muscle Car Masters has been Australia’s headline celebration of muscle for many years, and the recent re-brand of the event doesn’t change that. Heritage Touring Cars will be joined by Touring Car Masters, Production Touring Cars and Group N and be highlighted with feature races during the weekend.
Sydney Master Blast featuring the Muscle Car Masters will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park over the 4th and 5th of September.
The series-opening Phillip Island Classic is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to get back on the track and catch up with the community. We’ll be back soon with all the action from that event, and in the meantime we look forward to a safe, social and speedy year of motor sport and, as always, we’re honoured to be custodians of these great race cars and grateful for the opportunity to share them with the world.
Look forward to an exciting season of Heritage Touring Cars competition, and make sure to join us at an event near you to get up close with the Legends of Bathurst and see them unleashed on the track.
